INFLUENSTER- SALLY HANSEN COMPLETE MANICURE

INFLUENSTER- SALLY HANSEN COMPLETE MANICURE

Hey Frugalista’s!

I have been M.I.A. for a while, I got caught up with my YouTube channel and life. I am glad to be back! I was sent the Sally Hansen Complete Manicure box from Influenster. Sally Hansen Complete Manicure offers 7 benefits in one bottle. This new line has base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, color, top coat, chip resistant and a gel shine finish in every bottle.

Sally Hansen Complete Manicure Swatches

I love this line, the polish dries faster than the typical nail polish. It dries with a glossy shine and is long lasting. I currently, have on the “pat on the black” and i’m on my 7th day and it’s just starting to chip. I would definitely recommend this line to anyone, the price is average I bought a pink shade months ago for $6.99. I must add the brush provides a smooth and even application. My favorite shade is jaded which is the mint green on the right : )

Shades from left to right:
Red my lips 470, Pat on the black 510, Jaded 540

GLOSSYBOX CANADA FEBRUARY UNBOXING 2013

Image

Hey Frugalista’s

It’s Glossybox Canada 1 year anniversary/ birthday! Woot Woot! Happy Birthday Glossybox! The theme was a celebration of their birthday. This month’s box varied from hair products, baking accessories, body products and cosmetics.

Image

Givency Mini Lip Gloss- Coral Frenzy
This 3.5ml Givency lip gloss smells sweet and delicious. It goes on as a light coral with shimmer. The value of this product is $15 and it is a mini lip gloss.

Image

Anatamocials Body Cleanser- Full Size
This shower gel is in the scent of roses, it is 150 ml bottle. The cool thing it is it’s from the UK. The value of this shower gel is $3.

Image

Essence Quattro Eyeshadow-Full Size
Essence is a well known low cost drug store brand. I love their lipsticks and liners. However, I have never tried their eye shadows; this item has 4 shadows in various hues of green and one taupe shade. I swatched them on my hand and it has good pigmentation however, the lime green shade is a bit chalky. The value of this eye shadow quad is $3.99.

Image

Biore Pore Strips-Full Size
Biore Pore Strips 6 count package removes black and white heads from your nose. We often get Biore products, I am not a fan of the strips. Some people received a Biore face scrub I would of loved that. Biore strips do work well and it retails for $9.99

Image

Glossybox Customized Cup Cake Kit- Full Size
This was a nice treat to celebrate Glossybox 1 year anniversary/ birthday. It was very cute and pink, which is my favorite color. I plan on using these in the near future. The Cupcake kit came with approximately 20 cupcake cups and toothpicks with the glossybox logo on top.

These are swatches of the eye shadows and Givenchy lip gloss. The first to the left is the Givenchy lip gloss swatch.

Macadamia Healing Treatment-Deluxe sample size

This product is my all time favorite hair product! I been using the Macadamia hair care line for months now and I love it. This is a 30ml bottle and retails for $13.50. I can go on all day about this oil first it smells amazing. Secondly, it makes your hair super soft and not greasy. Lastly,  its very nourishing and great for all hair types. I would recommend this product to anyone.

NICOLE BY OPI “STILL INTO PINK” NAIL POLISH REVIEW

Image

Hey Frugalista’s

I decided to spice it up and give my nails a summer pop of color. I am so over winter! I painted my nails with the Nicole by OPI “Still into Pink”. I love pink its my favorite color and this is a hot pink with shimmer notes. Not only is the color pretty its long lasting, it lasted 3days before chipping. It probably could of lasted longer if I did not wash dishes etc.  I highly recommend this color if you love pink and are bold with bright colors. It’s a perfect summer color and pedicure color as well. I decided to give myself an early summer I was sick of the darker, dull colors. Nicole by OPI can be purchased any where now, drugstores, nail shops, beauty supply stores, large retailers like Wal-Mart and Target. This products ranges from $6-$12 depending on the retailer. Go out and get your pop of color frugalista!

GLOSSYBOX CANADA JANUARY 2013 REVIEW & UNBOXING

Hey Frugalista’s,

It’s been a little while since I posted a blog. This is the Glossybox January 2013 review. This month Glossybox Canada had a theme of winter moisturization. The box had hydrating items for th e winter months.

Wella Mousee for Color Treated Hair

Image

This is a full size product which retails for $17.99. I have never used mousse nor does my hair type require the use of mousse. Wella is a very good and well known salon brand. I cannot give a review because I do not use this product.

Too Faced Lip Injection Lip Gloss

Image

This is a very small sample of the Too Faced Lip Injection gloss. I give this an approximate value of $0-1. This product provides your lips with a tingle enlarging your lips to appear plumper. As you can see I do not need any more plumping my lips are naturally full. I have no use for this product nor can I review it. However, Too Faced is a well known product.

Burt’s Bee’s Milk & Honey Lotion

Image

This is a deluxe sample size/ Travel size product. The full size would retail for $12.99 the approximate value for this lotion is $2. Burt’s Bee products are 99% natural and this product contains honey and smells very nice and light. It is hydrating and a perfect size for your purse.

Vitabath Hand Lotion

Image

Citrus Twist Vita bath hand lotion was a travel size/purse size product. The scent is very refreshing and sweet. Vitabath has some great products and the lotion is moisturizing.

BeautySoClean Sanitation Wipes

Image

Samples of BeautySoClean sterilizing wipes have a value of approximately $2-3. The full size package contains 45 wipes; I got 15 wipes in my box. These wipes are used to clean make-up pencils, lipsticks, lip gloss etc. It removes lint, loose debris, dust etc. Simply use to wipe down the exterior of your product. I like this line however, I do not like the wipes I prefer their spray. It is great for travelling or on the go. Especially, when you keep cosmetics loose in your purse.

Nivea Lip Balm

Image

This was a full size product and the value was $2. Nivea lip balm contains Shea butter and jojoba oil, it is very moisturizing. It made my lips feel super soft and nourished with moisture. I would highly recommend this product especially as a base before putting on lipstick. I was a bit disappointed to see lip chap in a beauty box but it has become one of my favorite items this month.

Overall, the January Canadian Glossybox was not great! I was honestly disappointed with the low quality and repeat products. I got two lotions and was not really pleased with that seeing that this is a beauty box I was looking for more cosmetics. The items picked for me did not match my profile. I do not use mousse for my hair type nor do I need lip plumper and I already received the sterilizing wipes previously.

The approximate total value of the box was the lowest value ever $25-$28. Just a reminder this is a monthly beauty subscription that cost $21/month. I love Glossybox but was disappointed this month. Hopefully next month will be a lot better.

NATURAL HAIR: HEALTHY HAIR FROM THE INSIDE OUT

HEALTHY NATURAL HAIR FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Healthy hair is not only what we rub on our hair, its how we eat, sleep, and live life in general. Exercise is even a part of healthy hair. Stress can play a huge factor in the state of your hair as well.

Vitamins:

Play an essential role in hair growth and health. I am not talking about a magic vitamin/pill that will “grow” your hair. There is no such thing! There are vitamins that can promote healthy hair. There are 4 great vitamins I recommend.

1)        Biotin 1,000mcg- Main role is it promotes growth and healthy hair. It is also for the benefit of your skin and nails. It is available at Wal-Mart, any drug store and vitamin stores. Price is very reasonable I buy it at Target for a little less than $3 in the generic brand.

2)       Fish Oil 1,000mg– Promotes shiny, healthy hair growth and prevents shedding.  Fish oils are great for your brain, nails, hair and skin. Also available at Wal-Mart, vitamin stores or drug stores. Good fish oil can be a bit pricey however they do go on sale for $5 at Target.

3)       Stress B Complex– This is a vitamin compound of B-vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B-6, folic acid, B-12, biotin and pathothenic acid. It promotes cell production and energy production. It relieves stress and supports growth; it is great for people under stress! Years ago my mom was under stress and the front of her hair started shedding and appeared thin. The Doctor recommend Stress B complex and her hair started growing back. This vitamin can be a little pricey ranging from $12-$25.

4)       Hair, Skin and Nail– These vitamins generally have biotin and some of the vitamins found in the Stress B Complex. They promote healthy hair growth, skin and nail growth. I take this as well but only twice a week because it’s like doubling up on the same nutrients. However, make sure you read the dosages on the side of the bottle. Some have very low dosages of the vitamin which is a waste of money. Price ranges from $7-$20.

*If you have health issues consult your Physician before taking any vitamins*

Diet:

Diet plays a huge factor in hair growth. Your hair and body needs the nutrients and minerals from food sources. As we just spoke about vitamins you can also get your vitamins from food sources but for many of us it is not realistic with busy schedules. A combination of the right foods and vitamins are great for people on the go. Great food sources are protein, Omega 3 fatty acids, and iron. Chicken, eggs, fish, beans, lentils and nuts are rich in nutrients needed for healthy hair and skin. Protein builds healthy strong hair and repairs cells.

Examples of great hair food:

* Egg whites (P,I,Z)                          * Salmon(o)                                   * Greek Yogurt (p)

* Lentils(P.I,Z, B)                             * Beans(p)                                    * Spinach(I)

* Sardines(P,I)                          * Avocado(o)                             * Walnuts(O,E)

* Almonds(p)                          * Kale(I)                         * Chicken(p)

P=Protein                                       I=Iron                                     E=Vitamin E

O=Omega fatty acids    D=vitamin D                         Z=zinc                    B=Biotin

Iron is also important for hair growth; iron brings oxygen to the cells including the hair follicles.  The examples given above are natural sources of biotin, protein, iron and other vitamins for hair growth and healthy hair. You cannot eat like crap and expect growth; it will not work no matter how many products you’re using in your hair. It starts from the inside out!

Stress:

Stress is a major hair killer, breakage, hair loss and extreme shedding are signs. The best way to tackle stress is get a minimum 8 hours sleep every night. Drink 6-8 glasses of water, take a walk to calm down and relax. Walking also may lower your blood pressure and provides your body stimulation for better blood circulation. Take deep breaths and stretch through out the day. Give your self regular scalp massages and get the circulation going. These are things that can dramatically reduce stress.

Natural Products:

Anything you put in your hair you should be able to pronounce and know what it is. Natural oils and shea butter are the best way to go. There are also great natural product lines out there. Moreover, there are some good drugstore hair products as well. However, every oil or mixture is not for everyone! Learn your hair, pay attention on how your hair reacts to certain oils/products. Make a hair regiment that works for you and the health of your hair.

Most common oils used among naturalista’s:

  • Grapeseed oil
  • Olive oil
  • Almond oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Castor oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Vitamin E oil

Popular Essential Oils:

  • Tea tree oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Peppermint oil
  • Rosemary oil

Shea butter is very popular as well and can be mixed with any oil that works for you. Essential oils can be added to any mixture. Essential oils are used for scent or   other benefits. For example Tea tree oil is an essential oil and it s great for dandruff and dry scalp issues.

Personally, I used all the oils listed, shea butter and tea tree oil because I suffer from dry scalp. I also make my own oil mixture which I call my “wonder 9 oil” because it is a mixture of 9 different oils. The link to the video is below if interested.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYd3_lqStyk

I make my own hot oil scalp treatment once a week. I mix extra virgin olive oil with tea tree oil and warm it up. I also do a deep hydrating mask every time I wash my hair. I use a plastic cap and let it stay on for at least half an hour; I find it makes my hair extremely soft. That is part of my hair regimen I been on my journey for almost one year. Natural hair is a learning process and everyone’s hair is different so learn your hair!

Great healthy Hair smoothie for the Naturalista on the go

  • Handful or Kale or Spinach
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 kiwi
  • Small piece of ginger
  • ½ cup of ice
  • 1 cup of almond milk (or milk product of your choice)
  • apple or  pear
  • Table spoon of flax seeds

Mix in a blender, taste and adjust to suit you, it takes some getting use to.

This hair smoothie is packed with vitamins and minerals. Supplied with vitamin A, E, D, C and iron, potassium, magnesium, omega fatty acids, protein and phosphorus.

My current natural style are wash and go’s. I have been wearing wash and go’s for the entire Christmas holidays🙂

GLOSSYBOX CANADA UNBOXING: DECEMBER 2012

GLOSSYBOX AMBASSADOR

Happy New Year Frugalista’s!

I wish you all the best for 2013 plenty of cheer and happiness. I received my December Glossybox a few days ago. This month’s box was special because Glossybox teamed up with LouLou. For those that do not know LouLou is a trendy fashion magazine loaded with tips and fashion trends. One thing I love is that the box was silver this month!

First thing that was on top was the Glossy Mag, this month’s edition was more high fashion. Also, they highlighted a special vlogger and blogger this month which is pretty cool. The Glossy Mag was full of high fashion trends.

On this month’s Glossybox card LouLou gave tips for each product which was super cute. I will post each LouLou tip for the products listed.

On first glance this month’s box was packed! First Item was the Jergens Natural Glow lotion. I got the medium to tan type, which is not for my skin but its just lotion so it works. This was a full size product, 150ml retails for $8.99. This lotion smells so good it’s a light sweet scent. The lotion offers a natural glow with the benefits of a tan without the sun and odors.

LouLou Tip: Apply this moisturizer at bedtime for a beautiful, natural looking glow the next morning.

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 30
this is a full size product! This retails for $22.99 and is 75ml. Aveeno Ultra-Calming moisturizer calms and soothes irritation due to dry skin. Aveeno has a great line of products and this moisturizer is great. The value of this moisturizer covers the cost of entire Glossybox.

LouLou Tip: Mix a drop of this moisturizer with your favorite liquid foundation for a luminous complexion.

Revlon Nail Polish this is a full size product the 15ml bottle retails for $5.99. I received a translucent nude pink, it is a great shade for French manicures. It gives a very polished natural look on nails. The card states that it delivers a smooth and chip resistant color.

LouLou Tip: Nail art is all the rage right now! Get creative by painting each nail a different color or adding contrast at the tips.

GlossyBox Lashes this is a full size product, retailing for $12.50 a pair. False lashes have been a big trend of 2012 and seem to be for 2013 as well. Lashes can dramatically change your look. These lashes are quite luxurious and dramatic I cannot wait to try these. Even though I have never worn lashes it gives me a chance to try something new and have fun with it. I wish they would have included the adhesive for these lashes. This is exclusive to Glossybox of course since it is their brand. I have enjoyed the Glossy brand products over the months.

LouLou Tip: Dress up your gaze with false lashes! Simply run a bit of glue along the edge, press them at the base of your natural fringe to set them, and voila!

Tresemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo this is a deluxe sample size at 56g value approximately $2.50. It is a perfect travel or purse size. I have never tried dry shampoo because I need oils in my hair and I am natural. It seems like an interesting product I will pass on to a friend. The card states it can transform limp hair into health looking full bodied hair when you skip a shampoo.

LouLou Tip: Mist some on to give your do a little sexy bedhead texture.

Avon Liquid Eye Shadow this item is full size and the retail value is unknown. I am going to approximate $3.99 based on Avon’s price marks. I got a gold shade with some gold shimmer notes. This product was a bit strange it had Arabic writing and other languages on it. I am guessing it may have come from a different country. It seems interesting due to the fact I have never tried liquid eye shadow.

LouLou Tip: The number one make-up rule is always pick one feature to emphasize (eyes or lips) and keep the rest simple.

Tresemme Split Remedy Sachet
this was a sample packet one side was shampoo and the other side was conditioner. The approximate value for this sample packet is $1. I have used this product previously and I love it! It makes your hair soft and smells great. The Glossy card states it binds up to 80% of split ends, creating healthy-looking, smooth and polished styles. I am all about healthy hair this is great product to try.

LouLou Tip: Let your hair soak in this conditioner’s benefits by leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing.

Nobia Jewelry Collection this is clearly a full size item. I received a pair of blue stone fashion stud earrings. It has a silver rim around the blue stone. Cute pair of earrings for a casual and under stated look. The value of this item is unknown I am going to approximate $5. Also there were 50 golden tickets in boxes this month which received a statement necklace from Nobia in addition to other items. Pretty cool!

In this month’s Glossybox there were 8 items! That is the most we have received from Glossybox thus far. I think that is amazing, for $21 a month getting 5-6 products or more is a steal. This December box is valued at $62.96, possibly more depending on the value of the earrings. Glossybox is a great way to try new products at a low cost. If you are interested in joining Glossybox use code GLOSSY41 to save 10% off your first box. Pass on the savings! Glossybox has gift subscriptions and you can try it out for just one month. It is one of the best beauty box subscriptions out because of the range of products and the size of the products. Well frugalista’s get saving and get beautiful!
